Caldwell Parole Versus Probation
Parole and probation both allow a person to live in the community under rules, but they arise from different cases. The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles decides parole for an eligible state prisoner. TDCJ Review and Release Processing carries out an approved release, and TDCJ Parole Division provides supervision. Caldwell probation is formally called community supervision. A local court orders it, and Caldwell, Comal & Hays Community Supervision and Corrections Department, or CSCD, administers it.
A Caldwell County Jail departure does not by itself create parole. Someone may leave on bond with pretrial supervision, receive probation after a plea or judgment, finish a county sentence, or transfer to TDCJ. Likewise, leaving Gregory S. Coleman Unit after a favorable parole decision does not place the person under CSCD probation. The state parole certificate and assigned Parole Division office control that event.
| Feature | Parole | Probation |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | Release from a TDCJ prison term | Order from a county or district court |
| Decision authority | Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles | Judge in the criminal case |
| Local supervision route | TDCJ Parole Division office | Caldwell, Comal & Hays CSCD |
| Best proof | BPP result, release certificate, and Parole Division confirmation | Court order, docket, and confirmation from CSCD |
| Does it prove jail release time? | No | No |
The terms matter when records conflict. A favorable parole vote can precede physical release because a program, approved plan, or certificate may still be required. Probation can begin without a prison release at all. For the actual Caldwell County Jail exit, request the booking and release sheet through the county.
- Parole
- Conditional release from prison while the person serves the remaining term under state supervision.
- Probation
- Court-ordered community supervision, which Texas records often call community supervision.
- Mandatory supervision
- A separate form of supervised prison release governed by sentence-credit and eligibility rules.
- Discharge
- The recorded end of a sentence or supervision obligation.
- Absconder
- A person alleged to have stopped reporting or left supervision without permission; the supervising agency must confirm the status.
Verify Caldwell Post-Release Supervision
Begin with the custody system that held the person. For a state prisoner, the TDCJ inmate search is useful only while that person remains incarcerated. It may show a projected release date and parole-review information, but it is not a historic released-person index. After release, seek the incarceration history, release certificate, and direct Parole Division confirmation. For a Caldwell court case, use the correct clerk record and then contact CSCD. No public CSCD name search was documented.
- Classify the case. Decide whether the person left Caldwell County Jail, Coleman Unit, or another state prison. A transfer from the jail to TDCJ is continued custody, not parole.
- Read the controlling record. For parole, review the BPP result and TDCJ release processing. For probation, obtain the judgment, supervision order, or docket from the County Clerk for a misdemeanor or District Clerk for a felony.
- Confirm that release occurred. Call TDCJ at 512-406-5202 after a favorable vote, or obtain the TDCJ release certificate. A vote code alone does not prove departure.
- Identify the supervising office. Ask TDCJ Parole Division which district office has the case. For probation, contact the Caldwell, Comal & Hays CSCD office named in the court record.
- Verify the present status. Ask the responsible agency whether supervision is active, discharged, transferred, revoked, or subject to another official status that it may disclose.
The Texas IVSS-Counties search may show custody or supervision information supplied by participating agencies. Treat it as a current lead. IVSS states that former inmates may disappear and that the display is not an official record. A missing result does not prove discharge.
Caldwell Probation Reporting Offices
The CSCD contact page lists a main Caldwell office, a Luling satellite, and a District Resource Center. These locations handle community-supervision work, not state parole. Reporting instructions can differ by case and officer, so a person under supervision should follow the written order and confirm hours before travel.

The District Resource Center is at 401 E. Market in Lockhart and can be reached at 512-398-6639. It supports CSCD programs and referrals. It is not a public lookup counter and cannot replace the court record or a TDCJ parole contact.
Note: Published CSCD hours can change, and the assigned officer's instructions control reporting time and place.
Caldwell Probation Program Referrals
The tri-county CSCD publishes program information and treatment and referral information for people under court supervision. Access commonly begins with an officer referral. That means the District Resource Center can be an important local navigation point, but it is not an open enrollment office for every released Caldwell County resident.
State parole services follow another route. A person released from Coleman Unit on parole or mandatory supervision should use the TDCJ Parole Division office assigned in the release plan. CSCD staff do not replace the Board, Review and Release Processing, or the state parole officer. The distinction helps prevent a missed report after release.
Pretrial bond supervision is also distinct. A person may leave Caldwell County Jail while charges remain pending and report under bond terms. That status is not probation after judgment and not parole from prison. Read the bond order and the CSCD explanation before drawing a conclusion from the office name alone.
Caldwell Supervision Status Changes
Conditions may include reporting, approved residence, program participation, payment duties set by the court, or limits tied to the individual order. The exact terms come from the parole certificate, court order, and supervising officer. Broad agency descriptions should never be substituted for the signed conditions in one case.
A claimed violation does not always mean a new jail release or a final revocation. The officer may investigate, a warrant may issue, a court or Board process may follow, and the person may be detained by a different authority. An “absconder” label generally signals an alleged failure to remain in contact or comply with supervision, but only the responsible agency can confirm an active status or warrant. IVSS notification can provide a lead when a participating record changes; direct confirmation remains necessary.
For probation, check the Caldwell court docket for a motion, warrant, revocation order, continuation, or modification. For parole, use the BPP and TDCJ channels. If the person returns to Caldwell County Jail, the jail booking is a new custody fact and does not by itself reveal what the parole or probation authority later decided.
Note: Never treat a supervision allegation, no-hit, or missed appointment as proof of a warrant without confirmation from the issuing authority.
Caldwell Parole Review Evidence
The Board process has several stages. TDCJ identifies an eligible case, a three-member panel reviews the file, and two concurring votes decide the result. Official guidance says initial cases are identified about six months before eligibility and later reviews about four months before the review date. Texas does not hold formal individual parole or mandatory-supervision hearings, so there is no offender-by-offender hearing calendar.
Call 844-512-0461 for pre-vote or review information. A favorable action, often shown with an “FI” code, may include a future month, a program, or other conditions. The Review and Release Processing unit then checks the plan, residence requirements, program completion, discipline, and certificate work. Call 512-406-5202 after a favorable vote to ask about release processing.
A denial includes a later review date where applicable. Board open meetings concern agency business and are not individual prisoner hearings. The strongest evidence of physical exit is the release certificate or official release status, not the review schedule.
Caldwell Supervision Discharge Records
Supervision ends through an official discharge, court termination, revocation outcome, or another recorded action. For probation, obtain the court order showing completion or early termination and confirm the CSCD status when disclosure is permitted. For parole or mandatory supervision, request the TDCJ record showing the end of the obligation. A person leaving custody is not the same as a person finishing supervision.
Texas Government Code Chapter 508 governs parole and mandatory supervision. County and TDCJ records requests fall under Chapter 552, subject to lawful exceptions. Ask for an existing discharge, release certificate, order, or status record rather than asking an office to create a legal conclusion.
For a county jail release timestamp and the full search chain, use the Caldwell County released-inmate search. That record can show when jail custody ended, while the supervision file explains what obligations followed. Matching both avoids calling a transfer a community release or calling active parole a full sentence discharge.
The records route depends on the kind of supervision. A Caldwell probation completion belongs first in the court cause and CSCD file. Ask the County Clerk for a misdemeanor order or the District Clerk for a felony or district order, using the cause number when known. A TDCJ parole or mandatory-supervision discharge belongs in the state record. Give TDCJ the full name, TDCJ or SID number, and term dates, then request the existing release certificate, supervision history, or discharge entry that answers the question.
Do not treat silence from one office as proof that every obligation ended. A jail release, probation termination, parole discharge, and end of a criminal case are separate events. A person can leave Caldwell County Jail while a case remains open, or leave Coleman Unit while state supervision continues. The dated order or agency record should name the event and the authority responsible for it.
